I went into the USATF 100 Mile National Championships with the simple goal of getting the best out of myself. With tough conditions of temperatures in the high 80s, as well as the most competitive field I've ever been a part of, I wasn't sure what to expect but made the call from the start to just do exactly what I practiced in training, run my own race, and ultimately shoot my shot. Things came together throughout the day and I managed to run my way to a national title, an hour and twenty minute 100 mile PR, a 40 minute course record, 3rd overall, and 6th all-time American woman for the distance. The race still feels quite surreal and perhaps it always will, but I know without a doubt that taking a chance and putting myself in the arena was the first step to this outcome. I am a big proponent of comfort being the price of admission to a purposeful and significant life. Meaningful endeavors are never easy and much of the work to get there goes unseen - but they are always worth it. I hope my performance encourages others to work hard, remain patient and humble with quiet confidence, but to also not underestimate themselves. I truly got the best out of myself on the day - the national title was simply the icing on the cake.
