Flower Wins and Sets World Record; Austin Claims Title at 2025 USATF 50 Mile Championships

Results

USATF Colorado athletes delivered a commanding performance at the 2025 USATF 50 Mile Championships, held Saturday (8-Nov) in Vienna, Illinois, as part of the renowned Tunnel Hill Trail 50 Miler. A fast course, ideal conditions, and exceptional depth produced standout results - including a new world record by one of our own Coloradans.

Anne Flower Smashes 50-Mile World Record

Anne Flower (Colorado Springs) delivered the performance of the day—and of the year—by shattering the women’s world record for 50 miles. Flower crossed the line in 5:18:57, breaking the previous global best of 5:31:56 by nearly 13 minutes. The old record, set just last year by Courtney Olsen, had been considered a breakthrough mark; Flower’s run now resets the standard for women’s ultrarunning worldwide.

Her time also secured the USATF national title and the overall women’s victory at Tunnel Hill.

Colorado Men Go 1-2-6

Colorado’s dominance extended to the men’s race, where athletes from the Centennial State captured the top two spots in the USATF Championship standings.

  • Brogan Austin (Longmont) claimed the national title in 5:02:54, a decisive and composed effort that put him atop the U.S. podium.

  • Geoffrey Burns (Manitou Springs) secured the silver medal in 5:06:28, rounding out a powerful 1–2 Colorado sweep.

  • Adam Vadeboncoeur (Boulder) also turned in a strong showing, placing sixth in 5:58:21.

A Banner Day for Colorado Ultrarunning

Between a world-record performance, multiple national titles, and three athletes finishing in the top six of their respective national championship races, USATF Colorado once again demonstrated its depth and strength in the ultrarunning community.

Flower’s historic achievement also earned her Athlete of the Week honors by USATF - read article here.
