Revamped Grand Prix with $10,000 in Prize Money Starts July 12

USATF Colorado has announced the return of the USATF Colorado Grand Prix for 2025, featuring a refreshed six-race series, an innovative “home meet” format, and a total of $10,000 in prize money for top-performing clubs and individuals.

Now in its fifth year, the Grand Prix aims to elevate friendly club competition across the state, naming Colorado’s top running club through a cumulative season-long championship. Each race will be hosted by a local club in partnership with race directors, giving athletes and communities a chance to shine on home turf.

“Supporting Colorado’s incredible running events is central to our Association’s mission,” said Christina Yarmul, President of USATF Colorado. “The 2025 series includes several ‘must-run’ courses for our members and adds a new layer of energy through club-hosted meets.”

The series opens July 12 with the Cookie Chase 5K at Sloan’s Lake, hosted by 5280 Distance Project in partnership with Colorado Runner Events, and concludes November 16 with the Wash Park Circuit, organized by Denver Athletics.

“The Wash Park Circuit is an iconic Strava segment for elite and everyday athletes in Denver,” said Sean Stetler, Race Director and Co-Founder of Denver Athletics. “It’s the perfect stage to crown a Grand Prix champion after a hard-fought season.”

$10,000 in prize money will be awarded, including $1,000 each to the top men’s and women’s club teams, and $8,000 split among top individual performers across Open and Masters divisions.

Age-Graded Scoring Levels the Field
A hallmark of the Grand Prix is its age-graded scoring system, which adjusts athletes’ times based on age and gender. Using World Masters Athletics (WMA) scoring tables, runners of all ages compete on a level playing field. The age-graded scoring is used for the individual masters categories and for the team category.

In the team competition, the top five age-graded finishers, regardless of age, from each club determine the club’s score based on place finishes. This format encourages intergenerational team-building and strategic depth across rosters.
