USATF Colorado athletes turned in a championship performance on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the USATF Masters Half Marathon Championships in Spicewood, Texas, the second event in the 2026 USATF Masters Grand Prix, highlighted by a men’s 70+ team national title from Boulder Road Runners.
The Boulder Road Runners men’s 70+ squad secured the national championship with a combined time of 5:39:10, finishing ahead of their Georgia rivals, the Atlanta Track Club, who posted a team total of 5:53:31. The victory was built on strong individual efforts across two age divisions. In the men’s 70–74 race, Douglas Chesnut earned a podium finish, placing third with a time of 1:44:29, while teammate Bruce Kirschner followed in sixth place, finishing in 2:09:49.
In the men’s 75–79 division, Doug Bell delivered a standout performance, finishing second overall in 1:44:53. Bell’s runner-up result, combined with the performances from Chesnut and Kirschner, sealed the team victory and capped a successful day for Colorado’s masters athletes at the national championships.
