Bor wins USATF 10 Mile Title in Minnesota; Running #2 U.S. Time Ever

The 2022 USATF 10 Mile Championships were held on Sunday (2-Oct) in Minneapolis, Minn. as part of the Twin Cities In Motion Medtronic TC 10 Mile.  

Twenty (20) members of USATF Colorado competed in the championships with seven of them earning top-10 finishes.

Hilary Bor (HOKA / American Distance Project) of Colorado Springs won the men's race while Nell Rojas (adidas / RISE) of Boulder led the Colorado women as she finished fourth in the women's race.

Bor's winning time of 46:06 is the #2 time ever recorded by an American just missing the 42-year old record of 46:00 held by Herb Lindsay.  Fellow Coloradans Shadrack Kipchirchir of Colorado Springs and Reed Fischer (Tinman Elite) of Boulder finished fourth and fifth, respectively, both stopping the clock at 46:40.  The time makes Reed the #17 American all-time at the distance (Kipchirchir holds the #9 time having run 46:32 in 2018). Parker Stinson of Broomfield finished 11th running 47:13.

Rojas, who was competing in her third USATF championship in five weeks, stopped the clock at 52:20 to just miss her personal best by seven seconds. Fellow Coloradans Ednah Kurgat (Nike) of Colorado Springs, Molly Grabill (RISE Athletics) of Superior, and Lauren Hurley of Boulder finished 6th, 7th, and 8th, respectively, all finishing within two seconds of each other.  Kurgat ran 53:08 (U.S. #27 all-time) while Grabill and Hurley each stopped the clock at 53:10 (U.S. #30 all-time).  The race was won by Fiona O’Keeffe of North Carolina in 51:42 (#2 U.S. all-time).

USATF RUNNING CIRCUIT UPDATE

Rojas (43.5 points) is now tied for third in the USATF Running Circuit,; 12 points behind co-leaders Emily Sisson and Keira D'Amato. 

In the men's standings, with two races still left this year, Colorado's Leonard Korir has clinched the win and the $20,000 purse.  He currently has 104 points and leads by over 44 points. Kipchirchir (51 points) currently holds fourth place. With the 10 Mile win, Bor (32.5 points) moved up to seventh place in the men's standings.
