Whitfield and Baca take Colorado 25 km Trail titles

The 2021 USATF Colorado 25 km Trail Championships were held on October 23 as part of the Bobcat Trail Run in Colorado Springs.

The overall men's and women's champions were Brian Whitfield, 25, of Colorado Springs and Allison Baca, 31, of Golden.

In the men's race only 25 seconds seperated the top three runners.  Whitfield ran 1:37:03 as he seperated himself from the field with just one mile to go.  Eli Hemming, 26, of Louisville crossed the line just 10 seconds later.  Twenty-time U.S. champion Joseph Gray, 37, of Colorado Springs finished third running 1:37:38.

In the women's race Baca took took the lead early in the race with Tabor Hemming, 24, of Louisville running about one minute behind at the first aid station at 5 miles.  Bacca maintained that lead over the next 10 miles and stopped the clock at 2:08:26 .  Hemming finished second in 2:09:59.  Jayme Bergeron, 34, of Boulder finished third in 2:50:32.

Masters age division champions were:  Eric Monda (M40-44); Alison Fraser (W45-49); Gerald Romero (M50-54); Cheryl Aley (W50-54);  Tim DeGrado (M60-64); Kimberly Reece (W60-64); Richard Park (M65-69); Darunee Pisutadamongkol (W65-69); and Bob Findlay (M70-74).
