Colorado athletes delivered an impressive performance at the USATF Mountain Running Championships on Saturday (June 6) at Mount Sunapee Ski Resort in Newbury, New Hampshire, as Ares Reading of Boulder and Tayler Tuttle of Longmont both earned podium finishes and secured spots on Team USA.
The championship race was contested as part of the Sunapee Scramble, a challenging 9.3-mile up-and-down mountain course featuring more than 3,300 feet of elevation gain. A total of 132 athletes from across the country competed for national titles and positions on Team USA for the WMRA World Cup Final.
Reading placed third in the men's race in 1:13:25. At the same time, Tuttle matched that result in the women's competition with a third-place finish in 1:26:41. Their performances earned both athletes selection to Team USA for the WMRA World Cup Final, which will be held October 10-11 in Quebec, Canada.
Colorado placed three men inside the top 32 of the national championship field. Samuel Lanternier of Boulder finished 10th in 1:20:30, while Chester Cooper of Broomfield was 32nd in 1:38:35.
