Pottle, Bennett Strike Gold at USATF Masters 1 Mile Championships in Iowa

USATF Colorado athletes delivered a series of outstanding performances at the USATF Masters 1 Mile Championships held April 21 in Des Moines, Iowa, highlighted by national titles from Jack Pottle and Tracey Bennett and a remarkable age-graded performance from Gary Ostwald.

Competing in the men’s 70-74 division, Pottle claimed the national title running an impressive 5:44 (93.61 age-graded score). His victory paced a strong overall showing by the Boulder Road Runners across multiple age divisions.

On the women’s side, Bennett claimed gold in the W70-74 division, stopping the clock at 7:25 (81.09 age grade) to give Colorado its second national title in Des Moines.

One of the most notable performances of the championships came from Ostwald in the men’s 80-84 division. Ostwald finished runner-up in 6:31 but posted an exceptional 97.26 age-graded score, tied for the top age-graded score amongst the 132 competitors.

Colorado athletes consistently appeared near the top of the national standings throughout the championships. Additional top performances included Adam Feerst placing third in the M65-69 division in 5:32 (91.91), while Doug Bell earned runner-up honors in the M75-79 division with a time of 6:40 (85.33).

The Boulder Road Runners also found success in the team standings, placing third in the M50+ division behind the scoring trio of Feerst, Paxton Bennett, and Dewayne Gill with a combined time of 16:31. In the M70+ team competition, Boulder Road Runners finished second with Pottle, Douglas Chesnut, and Ostwald combining for an 18:34 team performance.
