USATF Colorado athletes delivered standout performances at the
2025 USATF 20 km Championships
on September 1 in New Haven, Connecticut. The championship, contested under warm and humid Labor Day conditions, once again confirmed Colorado’s role as a powerhouse in American distance running.
Colorado’s women’s contingent packed the top of the leaderboard with
Biruktayit Degefa
(American Distance Project, Colorado Springs) finishing runner-up in 1:05:42, just ahead of
Ednah Kurgat
(WCAP, Colorado Springs) in third at 1:05:46.
Maggie Montoya
(Roots Running Project, Boulder) completed the sweep of places two through four, finishing fourth in 1:05:57. At the front of the field, Aubrey Frentheway of Utah captured the national title in 1:05:36.
On the men’s side,
Hilary Bor
(HOKA, Colorado Springs) led the way for Colorado with a runner-up finish in 56:32, followed by
Zouhair Talbi
(Asics, Colorado Springs) in fourth at 57:40.
Shadrack Kipchirchir
(Colorado Springs) and
Aidan Reed
(Boulder) added top-10 finishes in sixth (58:23) and eighth (58:36), while
Emad Bashir
(15th, 59:35),
Tai Dinger
(21st, 1:00:21), and
Spencer Brown
(28th, 1:02:50) rounded out a deep showing. The men’s race was ultimately won in record-breaking fashion by Conner Mantz of Utah, who claimed the title in 56:16, a new U.S. record.
With three women in the top four and four men in the top 10, Colorado proved once again to be one of the nation’s premier hubs for elite distance running, reinforcing the state’s reputation as a training ground for world-class talent.
