World Mountain & Trail Running Championships - Daily recaps
Colorado Results Scoreboard
DAY 1 - Mountian Running (Up) event
Day 1 of the World Mountain & Trail Running Championships in Innsburck, Austria saw three USATF Colorado members compete in the Mountain Running (Up) event contested over the 7.1 km course that climbed to the top of the Elferhutte ski resort outside of Innsbruck. In the men's race
Joseph Gray
(Colorado Springs) finished fifth running 42:32 while
Morgan Elliott
(Salida) finished 72nd running 49:48. The race was won by Patrick Kipngeno of Kenya in a time of 40:18.
In the women's race, defending world champion,
Allie McLaughlin
(Colorado Springs) finished 13th running 52:27. McLaughlin's finish helped Team USA to a fifth place finish in the team competition. She was the second scorer for Team USA behind Grayson Murphy's (Arizona) third place individual finish. The race was won by Andrea Mayr of Austria in a time of 48:18.
Tomorrow's completion will be the Trail Running (Short course) that will cover a distance of 44.6 km. The USATF Colorado members competing will be
Brittany Charboneau
(Denver) and
Bailey Kowalczyk
(Nederland) in the women's race and
Jonathan Aziz
(Colorado Springs) and
Seth Ruhling
(Boulder) in the men's race.
DAY 3 - Trail Running (Long course) event
Day 3 of the World Mountain & Trail Running Championships in Innsburck, Austria saw four USATF Colorado members compete in the Trail Running (Long Course) event contested over a grueling 86.9 km course that featured 6,500 vertical meters in total climbing during the day. The highlights of the day for the Coloradans were the fifth place finish in the men's race by
Drew Holmen
of Boulder and the sixth place finish in the women's race by
Allison Bacca
of Golden.
In the men's race Holman stopped the clock at 10 hours 15 minutes and 40 seconds to lead Team USA to the silver medal in the team competition. The race was won by Benjamin Roubiol of France in 9:52:59. Team France won the team title with a total time of 30:43:09; just over five minutes ahead of Team USA's 30:48:17.
In the women's race Bacca stopped the clock at 11:56:21 for her sixth place finish. Boulder's
Clare Gallagher
finished 65th on the day and
Hannah Osowski
of Colorado Springs was not able to complete the race. Bacca was the top American as the Team USA finished fourth; 25 minutes outside of the bronze medal with a cumulative time of 36:45:57. The race was won by Marion DeleSpierre of France as she lead her team to the team title (34:58:23).
Saturday (day 4) is the final day of competition as the Open Men & Women and the U20 athletes will compete in the Mountain Running (up/down) event.
Allie McLaughlin
(Colorado Springs) will compete in the women's race while
Morgan Elliott
will compete in the men's race. Representing Team USA in the U20 race will be
Milaina Almonte
and
Lindsey Whitton
; both from Edwards.
