Sayre Wins Second National Title in Two Weeks with Win in New York

On Sunday (16-April) two (2) athletes from Colorado competed in the
USATF Masters Half Marathon Championships
in Syracuse, NY.
Both athletes,
Roger Sayre
and
John Blaser
, compete for the Boulder Road Runners. The championship, hosted by the Syracuse Half Marathon for the second straight year, was the sixth race in the
2023 USATF National Masters Grand Prix
. A total of 100 athletes competed in the championships.
At this event last year
Roger Sayre
, 65, of Golden finished second in the 60-64 division. A year older and now competing in the 65-69 division Sayre captured his second consequetive national title in 2023. Two weeks ago in California he won the USATF 10 mile title. In Syracuse, he added the half marathon title to his 2023 championship resume. His time of 1:24:46 scored 88.31% on the age grading tables. John Blase
, 66, of Cedar Rapids, IA finished second in the 65-69 division running 1:34:36
After six (of 10) events, Sayre is currently leading the
USATF National Grand Prix
(M65-69) with 330 points.
