In Their Words - Roger Sayre

One of best part of these championship races is making friends with runners from our rival teams. We’ll have fierce competitive efforts on race day, but afterwards, we’re all friends who get together a few times a year, or maybe once every few years. We follow each other online and encourage those who might be going through a rough patch with health or injuries, and celebrate their triumphs from afar. We know Colorado has a lot of fast runners, master and otherwise. While it’s fun to compete locally, it’s another thing to race against runners from around the country. Seeing what other people are doing motivates us to stay fit for the competition.

Sayre led his Boulder Road Runners squad to a team podium finish as they finished third in the M60+ division.  Backing Sayre up with solid performances were Adam Feerst, 62, of Denver and Michael Fronsoe, 64 of Monroe, LA. Feerst finished seventh in the 60-64 division running 49:33 and Fronsoe finished 20th in a time of 1:00:07. The Boulder Road Runners combined team time was 2:36:04.  The Shore Athletic Club (2:23:33) won the M60+ team division while the Greater Philadelphia Track Club (2:32:46) finished second. There were a total of 11 scoring teams in the division.  With the victory the Shore AC took the lead in the USATF Club Grand Prix; overtaking the Boulder Road Runners.  Currently the Shore AC has 480 points with the Boulder RR holding second place with 450 points.  The last race in the Grand Prix will be the 5 km Cross Country Championships in Boulder on October 22.

In the men's 75-79 division, Gary Ostwald, 76, of Denver earned the bronze medal as he finished third.  His time of 58:09 scored 81.02% on the age-grading tables.
