Humphrey, Kelleghan, Witt nab silver medals at National Junior Olympic Championships in California

Results

On Sunday (31-Jul) the 2022 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships concluded in Sacramento, California. The championships were held on the campus of Sacramento State University.

4325 athletes competed during the sevens days of competition that began on Monday (25-Jul).  USATF Colorado was represented by 65 athletes who competed in 117 individual events and 8 relays.  

The Colorado athletes turned in a total of 18 all-American performances by way of finishing in the top eight in an event.  Each all-American was presented with a championship medal, an all-American patch, and a coveted Junior Olympic all-American hat. 

Zenobia Witt (Alpha and Omega Athletics) turned in two all-American performances as she finished second in the 13-14 girls Triple Jump and was third in the Long Jump.  In the Triple Jump her best jump was 11.31m (37-1¼) and in the Long Jump she leaped 5.23m (17-2).  She was also 32nd in the 200m stopping the clock at 26.71.
Kiara Humphrey (Fountain T&F Club - pictured above) and Megan Kelleghan (Above the Bar TC) joined Witt in winning silver medals for their second place finishes; both in vertical jump events.  Humphrey cleared 1.45m (4-9¼) in the girls 11-12 High Jump.  Kelleghan finished second in the 17-18 girls Pole Vault clearing 3.70m (12-1½).

Kelleghan's Above the Bar TC teammates Kourtney Rathke (15-16 girls Long Jump, 5.58m/18-3¾) and Anna Willis (15-16 girls Pole Vault, 3.90m) each earned bronze medals for their third place event finishes.  Rathke also earned a second all-American honor as she placed sixth in the Pole Vault (3.45m /12-9½).

Also picking up a third place medal was Osita Agbo (Colorado Springs Striders) in the 17-18 boys Triple Jump (14.04m / 46-0¾ ). He also finished 10th in the High Jump (1.85m / 6-0¾) and 11th in the Long Jump (6.63m / 21-9).

Isaak Easley (Angel Flight) earned two all-American honors as he finished seventh in the 15-16 boys 200m (22.85) and eighth in the 100m.

Brenna Jorde (Kokopelli Kids, 13-14 girls 3000m)
Kiyah Enoch (Blackstars Elite, 13-14 girls 100m Hurdles)
Brandon Hills (Colorado Springs Striders, 17-18 boys Long Jump)


SIXTH PLACE

Max Miller (Kokopelli Kids, 13-14 boys 1500m)


SEVENTH PLACE

Giovanni Basile (Rise Athletics, 15-16 boys    2000m Steeple)


EIGHTH PLACE

Casen Crump (Alpha and Omega Athletics, 7-8 boys 400m)
Braeden Harris (Colorado Speed TC, 17-18 boys Decathlon)


In the always competitive relay competitions, Brute Force TC (11-12 girls 4x100m) and Alpha and Omega Athletics (13-14 boys 4x100m) each finished tenth in their races.

Next year's championships will be held July 23-30 in Eugene, OR.

The 2022 USATF National Cross Country Championships will be held December 10 in College Station, TX.
