On a warm and sunny day, the 2022 USATF Masters 5 km Cross Country Championships were held on Saturday (22-Oct) in Boulder's Harlow Platts Community Park.  273 runners from 24 states competed in the championships.   141 athletes and 21 teams from Colorado toed the line.

The championships were hosted by T.E.A.M Boulder and the Boulder Road Runners.

Athletes, ranging in age from 40 to 84, competed in five year age divisions with the top three in each division earning recognition during the medal ceremony.  Team competition in 10-year divisions also found the top three teams in each division being recognized.  Additionally, each athlete was ranked (by sex) based on their age-graded score. Age graded scores are based on the athlete's performance as compared to the respective single-age (road) world record. When merged the age-graded scores provide a snapshot, regardless of age, of who had the best performances.

The storylines of the day were the six individual and three team national titles won by Colorado athletes.

Winning individual titles were Ann Kirkpatrick (W40-44) of Fort Collins; Melody Fairchild (W45-49) of Lyons; Rochelle Persson (W50-54) of Colorado Springs; Abbie Wade (W60-64) of Littleton; Chris Grauch (M50-54) of Nederland; and Dan King (M60-64) of Boulder.

Fourteen other Coloradans earned trips to the awards podium for finishing either second or third in their divisions.
