Brother-sister duo set total of six masters U.S. records in Massachusetts

On Saturday (Sep-25) the Boulder brother and sister duo of Daniel King, 62, and Laura Bruess, 60, each broke three existing U.S. masters track records* in Lynn, Massachusetts.  Competing in the Lynn One Hour Run they broke the existing M60-64 and W60-64 track records for 15,000m, 10 Mile, and One Hour.

King, who earlier this year set the world M60 1 mile record, covered 16,465 meters (10.23 miles) over the course of the 1 hour competition.  That mark broke the existing record set in 1976 by 188 meters. The previous record was held by Clive Davies.  Coming into the event Davies also held the 15,000m and 10 mile records but when the day was over King had broken those records as well.  He passed through 15,000m in 54:30 and 10 miles in 58:37. He cropped 2m 03s off of Davies' 15,000m record and 1m 47s off the 10 mile record.

While King was doing his thing, his little sister Laura was doing all she could to keep up with her big brother - AND SHE DID.  She finished the 1 hour competition covering 13,183m (8.2 miles) to break 41-year old record, held by Marcie Tent, by 108 meters.    She passed through 15,000m in 1:09:08 and 10 miles in 1:14:32.  Each breaking records held by Cynthia Lucking from 2017. Bruess sliced 8m 08s off the 15,000m record and 8m 38s off the 10 mile record.
