Kibet & Kipchirchir take Colorado 10 km titles


(20-July) The Colorado Championships series picked up yesterday with the 10 km Championships hosted by the Colorado Springs Classic 10K in Colorado Springs.  The event was organized by Mad Moose Events.  
Ivy Kibet, 30, and Shadrack Kipchirchir, 31, both of Colorado Springs, won the open women's and men's titles, respectively.  Kibet ran 34:03 to win the women't title while Kipchirchir ran 31:23 to secure the men's title; each earning $400.
The top three women all finished within 32 seconds of each other as Atesde Baysa, 33, of Colorado Springs ran 34:11 for second place with Elvin Kibet, 30, of Colorado Springs rounding out the top three running 34:35.  Elvin is the twin sister of Ivy.  Baysa earned $200 and Kibet $100.
In the men's race Kipchirchir, a 2016 Olympian in the 10,000m, outran Girma Mecheso, 32, of Colorado Springs and Marty Andrie, 27, of Golden.  Mecheso ran 30:51 to finish six seconds behind Kipchirchir while Andrie stopped the clock at 31:37.  Like the women, the top three men earned $400, $200, and $100, respectively.
In the masters competition age division champions were Michael Kraus (M45, 35:37) of Erie; Kathy Owen (W50, 50:09) of Monument, Bret Stevens (M50, 55:15) of Aurora, Lile Budden (M60, 47:39) of Colorado Springs, and Nancy Antos (W70, 1:04:55) of Boulder.  A total of $ in prize money was awarded to the top three men's and women's masters finishers .
