Bor wins, Korir fourth to lead Team USA to victory in Scotland

1/13/2019

(13-Jan) Colorado Springs teammates Hillary Bor and Leonard Korir finished first and fourth, respectively to help lead Team USA to the team win yesterday at the 2019 SimplyHealth Great Stirling XCountry International Challenge in Sterling, Scotland.

The international competition featured athletes from Team USA, Great Britain and Team Europe. The top 4 finishers for each team contributed to the final team scores.

With 800m to go Bor and Leonard Korir led the field and seemed to have the top two spots locked up but at that point they momentarily went off course.  After backtracking they joined the new lead pack which included Team USA teammates Garrett Heath and David Elliott as well as Team Europe athletes Napoleon Solomon and Adel Mechaal.

With 200m remaining, Bor made a decisive move which carried him to to victory in 23:48.  He was closely followed by Solomon (2nd - 23:48), Mechaal (3rd, 23:49) and Korir (4th, 23:49).  Heath finished fifth (23:56) and Elliott sixth (24:00) as they were the third and fourth place scorers for Team USA.

Team USA won the team competition with 16 points; defeating Team Europe (20 pts.) and Great Britain (44 pts.).
